Formula
pace (seconds per km) = total_time_seconds ÷ distance_km
The result is formatted as mm:ss per kilometer. Accepts time as mm:ss or hh:mm:ss and distance as a positive decimal in kilometers.
When to use it
Analyze completed workouts, compare interval sessions, set treadmill targets, or translate race finish times into sustainable training paces.
Example
Running 10 km in 50:00 yields 5:00/km — five minutes per kilometer averaged across the route.
Limitations
Assumes constant effort over flat terrain; hills, wind, and stops are not modeled. GPS distance errors propagate into pace error. Extremely short distances amplify measurement noise.
